Kakhovka, Kherson region
Russia is draining the Kakhovka reservoir in the Kherson region, jeopardizing drinking water supplies, agricultural production and the safety of Europe's largest Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The station's cooling system will not be able to operate without water in the Kakhovka reservoir.
Water has been flowing from the Kakhovka reservoir since the beginning of November 2022, when the invaders blew up the road above the hydroelectric dam during the advance of Ukrainian troops, the publication notes. The explosion appears to have destroyed the road, leaving the dam lock almost untouched. However, later it turned out that the Russian troops deliberately opened additional locks.
