More than one and a half thousand people now live in the almost destroyed city.
Almost all buildings, including historical ones, are damaged or destroyed. There are no living conditions - no water supply, electricity, or gas. Technical and drinking water is delivered to the remaining, mostly elderly, residents by crews of the State Emergency Service.
